What do you know about chrononutrition, environmental contaminant effect on mammary development, and breastfeeding after menopause? How about the latest recommendations for mothers with COVID-19 at the time of birth?
We start with the role of melatonin in breastmilk, then discuss the various environmental contaminants may disrupt mammary gland development. We then touch on rusty pipe syndrome, discuss a case of a 67yo woman who becomes pregnant and breastfeeds, and wrap up with the most current recommendations on breastfeeding management for a COVID+ mother. Phew!!

I have seen RPS several times in women during the first 1-2 days of pumping. It has always been a dark brownish-red in color. In all cases it resolved as the breasts filled with milk. From your podcast I gather that if it resolves, you do not recommend any diagnostic procedures. Is this correct? Thank you for the great podcast.

Correct, especially if it is coming from both breasts. Here is more information- https://lacted.org/questions/0199-rusty-pipe-syndrome/

Hi Anne,
Would you be able to provide resources on the environmental contaminants that effect mammary development? The information you provided was illuminating.

I recommend checking out the article- Criswell R. Crawford KA, Bucina H, Roman ME. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals and breastfeeding duration: a review Curr Opin Endocrinol Diabetes Obes 2020, 27
